What are the responsibilities and job description for the SSS-STEM Mentor (PT) position at Passaic County Community College?
We are seeking mentors for our Student Support Services (SSS) - STEM program. Mentos should have strong interpersonal skills and communication skills to support students in the SSS-STEM program. The primary responsibilities of a Mentor are to serve as role models in supporting students through individual and group meetings toward their success. Mentors guide students in ensuring they feel a sense of belonging to the program and college and help facilitate a welcoming environment for personal growth and success.
This is a part-time, hourly position.
Example of Duties:
- Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students’ diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences.
- Participate in Staff Meetings, mentor training, and professional development activities to continue to grow cultural competence and reflection skills.
- Make appropriate referrals to other campus and community resources as needed.
- Facilitate group workshop sessions.
- Reinforce collegiate skills including time management, communication and networking, and study strategies.
- Conduct check-in meetings with mentees and maintain regular outreach.
- Assist in the development of skills necessary for students to succeed both personally and academically.
- Assist students in developing career/academic goals and expectations.
- Participate in the planning of enrichment activities.
- Evaluate and document mentoring experiences.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Current College Student
- Technology, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of social media platforms
- Ability to work in a team environment coordinating needed student services
