Description
Position Summary : The Line Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all activities related to the operation and maintenance of PVSC’s collection system in accordance with state and federal regulations. Will also be responsible for supervising department personnel.
Minimum Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : Must be able to operate a motor vehicle, assign appropriate tasks, and train and supervise subordinate employees performing various activities required in the collection of wastewater and biosolids. Must possess knowledge of the theoretical and practical applications of flow metering principles and practices, pipe and manhole assessment protocols, and computerized control systems, as well as have comprehensive knowledge of PVSC’s collection system and emergency plans. Must have knowledge of the various governmental regulations pertaining to wastewater and biosolids collection, treatment, and disposal, and be able to comprehend related laws, rules, and regulations. Must have knowledge of the tools, materials, equipment, principles, and methods used in the collection of wastewater and biosolids, as well as understand both the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions that need to be exercised. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position and be able to understand, remember and carry out oral and written instructions. Must have the ability to read and comprehend engineering and construction drawings, electronic and electrical schematics, and pneumatic and hydraulic flow diagrams. Must be capable of working with personnel to effectively diagnose equipment and / or system failures.
Experience and License Requirements : Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in collection system maintenance and operations. A valid New Jersey Driver’s License and NJDOT Certified Traffic Control Coordinator Certificate is required. Commercial Driver's License (“CDL”) Class B required, however a CDL Class A is preferred. A New Jersey Collection System C2 license is required or must be actively pursuing a C2 License. A New Jersey Wastewater Treatment S2 license is preferred.
- Actively pursuing is defined as taking the associated State license exam at least 2 times per year until the license is obtained.)
Education : High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required. Associates Degree in Engineering or the Sciences is preferred. Satisfactory completion of both the Introduction to Wastewater course and the Advanced Wastewater Collection course is required. Completion of the Advanced Wastewater Treatment course is preferred.
Working Conditions : Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and required to work indoors and outdoors.
Physical Demands : To perform the essential functions of this position the employee must be able to : sit, stand, walk, stoop, climb, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs., carry, reach, push, pull, use a keyboard, use tools, manual dexterity, visual acuity, hearing and speaking. Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into confined spaces while wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (“PPE”) such as, but not limited to, canister and dust masks as well as Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (“SCBA”). Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, legs and whole body such as climbing (including ladders), lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling heavy objects.
