What are the responsibilities and job description for the Breeding Department Lead - Sow Farm position at Passel Farms?
Position Summary: Responsible for daily management of the Gestation/Breeding through implementation of established production protocols and procedures as well as fulfilling Unit Manager responsibilities in their absence.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Training and daily follow-up of breeding staff to follow all Production SOP’s.
- Training breeding employees in proper animal husbandry skills to reduce stress of herd and to maximize production.
- Scheduling and prioritization of daily and weekly tasks and completion of task sheets.
- Provides daily communication with Unit Manager on production, animal health, and breeding personnel issues.
- Performs proper heat detection procedures.
- Performs artificial insemination.
- Understand the feeding system and bump feed boxes according to health and condition of sows.
- Training and management of gestation/breeding staff.
- Must be willing to work weekend rotation.
2 years prior Gestation experience
