At Passerine, we are excited to bring a high-level Indian dining experience to NYC. We opened November 1st, and we are dedicated to delivering exceptional food and service, inspired by the Michelin-starred vision of our talented Chef Chetan, who earned accolades in DC last year. Our goal is to create a memorable dining experience that reflects the rich flavors and traditions of Indian cuisine while aiming for a Michelin star in our new home.
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and talented sommelier to join our dynamic team. As a sommelier, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our guests' dining experience by expertly guiding them through our wine selections. You will work closely with our General Manager to oversee the wine program and provide direction on wine pairings and service. If you have a flair for wine and a love for hospitality, we want to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities
- Curate and present a diverse wine list, highlighting unique selections that complement our Indian-inspired cuisine.
- Provide knowledgeable recommendations to guests, including food pairings and explanations of wine characteristics.
- Collaborate with the General Manager and kitchen staff to ensure seamless service and exceptional guest experiences.
- Maintain the wine inventory, ensuring proper storage and organization.
- Conduct wine tastings and training sessions for staff to enhance their wine knowledge and service skills.
- Handle guest inquiries, feedback, and special requests with professionalism and care.
- Uphold the restaurant's high standards of service and contribute to a positive team environment.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a sommelier in a fine dining or upscale restaurant is preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge of wines, particularly with an interest in pairing with Indian cuisine is preferred but not required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- A passion for hospitality and a commitment to providing exceptional service.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Actively practice food and beverage safety procedures.
- Organizational skills.
- Must be able to stand for at least 8 hours and lift at least 50 pounds.
