The job responsibilities of both host and cashier are similar in that they serve to frame the dining experience of our guests. The initial greeting by the host/hostess sets the tone – he/she should be friendly and helpful! As the guests leave, it is important that they see a sincere appreciation from the host staff for dining with at the restaurant and that the guests are invited to return again. They will take home with them a clear picture of a superior dining experience. Remember to always be cheerful, helpful and appreciative. You never get a second chance to make a good first impression!
CASHIER RESPONSIBILITIES
A cashier is responsible for the host duties as well as cashier duties. If the cashier is the only person at the front door, he/she is responsible for greeting and seating the guests.
When there is a host and a cashier, both employees are responsible for greeting and seating guests, but the cashier will have other additional responsibilities such as: taking and filling take-home orders, and collecting the receipts and money from the day. This position involves accuracy, patience, and organization. Cashiers will be trained how to operate the cash register, as well as trained on how to handle cash, travelers checks, credit cards, and gift certificates.
