What are the responsibilities and job description for the KEY Academy Teacher position at Path Forward of Kentucky?
Job Summary: The KEY Academy Teacher will work directly with the KEY Academy Coordinator to lead classes for KEY Academy participants in accordance with requirements under Supports for Community Living and Michelle P Medicaid Waiversfor both waiver and private pay participants. This position will be located in the Bowling Green office and involves administrative, community and classroom-based responsibilities.
- Partner with the KEY Academy Coordinator to create and execute lesson plans and career/pre-vocational activities
- Activities should be designed to foster the acquisition of skills, build positive social behavior and interpersonal confidence, while fostering greater independence and personal choice
- Career planning or pre-vocational activities to develop experiential learning opportunities and career options consistent with the participant’s skills and interests. Activities should be person centered and designed to prepare participants for the transition from school to adult responsibilities, community integration and/or work
- Lead class sessions according to the approved schedule (Tuesday/Thursday)
- Sessions should enable each participant to attain the highest level of work in the most integrated setting with the job matched to their interests, strengths, priorities, abilities, and capabilities
- Demonstrate competence and knowledge on topics required to safely support participants, as described in person centered service plans
- Support KEY Academy Coordinator in completion of class session attendance and monthly summary documentation, as needed
- Assist with marketing the KEY Academy program to potential participants, including occasional participation in community events and informational sessions
- Other duties as assigned
Education/Training: A minimum of two (2) years’ experience providing direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities in a classroom setting preferred. At least a high school diploma or GED, along with completion of all required SCL/MP waiver training required.
Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required. Attention to detail and solid organizational skills are important, along with the ability to read, understand and implement written and verbal instructions. Positive attitude and flexibility to work independently or in a team environment are essential. Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and current car insurance are required.
Physical Demands: Individual must be able to sit or stand for long periods, work extensively with a computer and/or smart phone daily. This position is in an office/classroom environment.
