The Health Services Specialist at Pathfinder Early Learning Center plays a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of children enrolled in private pay programming. This includes making sure all children are current with immunizations, well checks, and screenings for lead and hemoglobin, adhering to the standards set by Indiana Child Care Licensing and NAEYC. Working in close collaboration with families, this position educates on preventive care and pediatric health, providing support and follow-up for chronic conditions, managing information on food allergies, and maintaining comprehensive health records.
Duties encompass direct engagement with families to confirm children meet all health requirements as mandated by the Head Start Program Performance Standards, including conducting on-site screenings for vision, hearing, hemoglobin, and lead. The Specialist is responsible for keeping detailed records to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards, using data to enhance the quality of health services. Collaboration with Pathfinder's consulting physician to update health procedures, advising teachers on health recommendations for families, and coordinating with the Early Learning Center team to refer children to necessary health services are key aspects of the role.
Additionally, the Specialist delivers direct care in the clinic, administers medications, and provides CPR and first aid training to both new and existing staff, with an obligation to complete 20 hours of annual training in Early Childhood Development. This comprehensive approach ensures the highest health and safety standards for the children under their care.

Requirements
Preferred Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of bachelor's degree, RN or BSN.
- At least 18 years of age; must be at least 21 years of age to work independently with infants and toddlers.
- Basic language, written, and computer skills necessary for communication and documentation.
- Valid driver's license.
- Demonstrated ability to support people with disabilities.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule if needed.
- Ability to speak, hear, and read the English language.
- Essential physical skills – be able to run, squat, stoop/bend, kneel, climb stairs, be able to lift 50 pounds, push and pull against potential resistance; and be able to implement CPR and First Aid when needed.
