Job Summary
The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory Assistant operates under the direction of a supervisor(s) and/or laboratory professional(s). Individuals in this position perform various tasks and procedures in the molecular laboratory designed to support the laboratory workflow such as specimen processing, instrument preparation, and cleaning. Individuals with appropriate training and experience may perform waived and moderate complexity testing. Experienced individuals in this position may assist in the training of less experienced laboratory assistants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory Assistant operates under the direction of a supervisor(s) and/or laboratory professional(s). Individuals in this position perform various tasks and procedures in the molecular laboratory designed to support the laboratory workflow such as specimen processing, instrument preparation, and cleaning. Individuals with appropriate training and experience may perform waived and moderate complexity testing. Experienced individuals in this position may assist in the training of less experienced laboratory assistants.
Job Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Receiving, tracking, and handling specimens according to department protocols.
- Centrifuging, pouring off and preparing specimens for testing.
- Loading primary bar-coded specimens on analyzers.
- Automated process of sorting, de-capping, aliquoting and archiving of specimens.
- Performing preparatory portions of tests with adequate and specific training which demonstrates a satisfactory level of competency.
- Demonstrating competency initially, at six months, and at least annually.
- Assisting the Molecular Supervisor(s) with day-to-day operations and execution of laboratory services.
- Maintaining and reviewing pending lists and ensuring fulfillment of TAT's.
- Addressing client concerns. Investigating and following-up as needed.
- Disposing of biohazardous and non-biohazardous waste.
- Exercising all laboratory safety precautions and adhering to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
- Performing all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
- Abiding by the Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate policies, including the Privacy and Security policies.
- Work with other departments within PathGroup and subsidiaries.
