Janitorial/Housekeeping Description
The Janitorial position works in residential substance use treatment settings, using his/her experience in janitorial skills for overall cleanliness of Pathway Society facilities. The Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for clients and staff by performing cleaning duties, frequently interacts with staff, clients and requires the use of decorum, professionalism, courtesy, and effective communication techniques.
Janitorial/Housekeeping Responsibilities
- Including but not limited to dust, vacuum, mop, wipe down door jams, light switch covers, walls & baseboards
- Dust furniture and equipment
- Replace light bulbs (reasonable height), batteries in paper dispensers
- Replenishing supplies as needed in coordination with maintenance coordinator.
- Oversee the upkeep, maintenance & ordering of all cleaning equipment (vacuums, mops, towels and cleaning products) in cooperation with the maintenance coordinator
- Maintain Cleaning closet in an orderly manner
- Report maintenance issues to coordinator
Cleaning areas to include:
- Staff restrooms
- Staff offices
- Staff breakroom
- Group rooms
- Dining area
- Reception area
- Withdrawal management bathroom
- Other areas as needed/assigned
Performs laundry duties, including:
- Washing/drying, folding of bedding when clients discharge
- Restocking linens in designated storage room & dispose of worn items
- Report when bedding supplies are low to purchasing.
- Maintain laundry room/clean and organized
Janitorial/Housekeeping Qualifications:
- Minimum 2-3 years experience in janitorial/housekeeping
- High school diploma
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Outlook email, online timekeeping system
- Work well under frequent interruptions and firm deadlines
- Strong ability to communicate (English) with clarity, courtesy, and professionalism both orally and in writing/email with coworkers and clients
- Experience in safely operating and maintaining a wide variety of equipment
- Maintains appropriate personal and professional boundaries with clients and co-workers
- Receive training and pass certification testing in the areas of HIPAA and 42 CFR
- Must pass comprehensive background check, reference check, and possess a valid driver license, current auto liability insurance and a clean driving record

15% - driving/procuring supplies
20% - attend to email, voicemail communication and use of computer

Ability to perform the following physical activities for 65% - 100% of scheduled work shift:
- Bend/stoop/squat/kneel perform routine maintenance and repairs, picking up tools and other equipment
- Climb stairs and ladders perform multi-level service requests
- Push or pull move equipment, opens and closes doors etc.
- Reach above shoulder perform routine maintenance/repairs, stock and remove equipment, parts etc.
- Grasp/grip/turning handle tools and equipment, perform routine maintenance repairs
- Finger/dexterity handle tools and equipment, perform routine maintenance repairs
- Writing/typing inventory of items, purchase orders and required maintenance reports
- Hearing - perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound
- Visual acuity - perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and assessing the work area
- Ability to walk, sit or stand for 75% of scheduled shift
