Position Description:
The withdrawal management technician is a liaison between clients and their families, medical and mental health practitioners, and criminal justice agencies. Technicians support clients with their own self-care and daily needs, to provide a positive treatment experience.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Care for and support clients in the detoxification process
- Pull and enter referrals from the county Unicare system
- Manage placement list and schedule admissions
- Conduct client admissions and facility orientation
- Document client activity in chart and shift log notes
- Assist clients with case management including attending to medication needed, legal issues and case management
- Make medications available to clients; log and store medications using documented protocols
- Complete client discharges and related documentation
- Conduct regular and timely client safety and health checks per documented protocol
- Perform urinalysis testing as needed
- Establish and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients
- Ensure the safety and security of clients and the facility
- Ensure cleanliness of office and client areas, wash linens, and perform light household tasks
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the program director
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED and at least one year practical experience in drug/alcohol field (employment, internship or volunteer work)
- Registered (RADT) or certified (CADC) with a drug and alcohol certifying body such as CCAPP
- Knowledge of the needs of individuals diagnosed with co-occurring disorders and substance abuse and basic understanding of treatment and rehabilitation techniques
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week)
- Exercise good judgment and respond calmly in emergency situations
- Ability to work effectively with people differing in value systems, ethnicity, cultural backgrounds, language capabilities and disabilities
- Ability to engage and communicate effectively with others, including excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be comfortable with, and entertain frequent interruptions, with patience and decorum, in a fast paced, intensive, client centered environment
- Initiate and maintain excellent working relationships with community partners
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check as required the County of Santa Clara Department of Alcohol and Drugs regulations.
- Provide or obtain current Health Screening, TB test results and CPR certification once clearence from the county is received.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and email in a Windows based PC
- Must maintain the highest standards of professional ethics and behavior as described in the Pathway Society personnel manual.
Physical Requirements
- Climbing; ascending or descending stairs, ramps, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
- Kneeling; bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Crouching; bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
- Reaching; extending hand (s) and arms above head in any direction.
- Hearing; perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
- Lifting; able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 20 pounds.
- Visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures and viewing a computer terminal.
