Job Title : Controller
Location : Inver Grove Heights, MN
Salary : $150,000 - $175,000 bonus
Position Overview :
We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the financial operations a home healthcare, independent living, and assisted living facilities. This role requires expertise in healthcare billing, Medicaid reimbursement, and financial controls, with knowledge of the long-term care industry preferred. The Controller will ensure financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and accurate reporting for both companies while managing day-to-day financial operations.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Controllership, with experience in the healthcare sector. They will be responsible for maintaining financial processes, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and leading the financial teams across both organizations.
Key Responsibilities :
Financial Leadership and Oversight :
- Manage the financial operations of the two companies, including general ledger, accounts payable / receivable, payroll, and cash flow management.
- Lead the month-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Establish and monitor robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with financial reporting standards.
- Oversee Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance billing, ensuring proper reimbursement and compliance with healthcare billing requirements.
- Ensure financial statements and reports are prepared in accordance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
Budgeting, Forecasting, and Analysis :
Develop and manage the annual budget and financial forecasts, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and operational needs.Conduct financial analysis and provide recommendations to improve financial performance, identify risks, and optimize cost control.Collaborate with department leaders and senior executives to drive operational efficiencies and optimize financial outcomes.Compliance and Regulatory Expertise :
Ensure compliance with all state and federal healthcare regulations, particularly in relation to Medicare, Medicaid, and other healthcare reimbursement programs.Oversee the preparation and submission of Medicaid cost reports and ensure compliance with reimbursement rules and audits.Ensure financial operations adhere to HIPAA standards and other applicable healthcare regulations.Lead financial audits, ensuring all records, documentation, and reports are accurate and audit-ready.Team Leadership and Development :
Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting teams, ensuring they are equipped to handle both day-to-day operations and financial reporting requirements.Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and financial excellence within the finance department.Qualifications :
Education & Certifications :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master's degree or MBA preferred).CPA certification is highly preferred.Experience :
10 years of experience in accounting and financial management, with a preference for candidates with experience in the senior living or long-term care industry.Experience with Medicare and Medicaid billing, healthcare reimbursement, and regulatory compliance.Proven track record of controllership experience, preferably within healthcare or a similarly regulated industry.Strong knowledge of GAAP and healthcare-related accounting practices.Skills :
Advanced knowledge of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning.Strong understanding of healthcare billing systems and reimbursement protocols (Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance).Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in financial modeling and risk assessment.Proficiency in financial management software and ERP systems; experience with healthcare-specific accounting systems is a plus.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence decision-making at the executive level.Leadership skills with the ability to manage teams and navigate complex financial operations in a healthcare environment.
