Job Summary
Position Purpose: The Medical Assistant will cross train and be versed in working as a Medical Assistant, Medical Assistant-Scribe, and/or Medical Assistant-Office. The Medical Assistant in each office will be providing CCM services including communication with the patient or other treating providers for care coordination, management of prescriptions, resources for patients, and education on increased access to care for chronically ill patients outside of normal practice hours. The Medical Assistant-Scribe primary responsibility is technical skills encompassing patient care and related tasks directed by a Doctor, APRN, Register Professional Nurse, or a Licensed Practical Nurse. The Medical Assistant-Office will perform routine functions of the front/back office including greeting patients, ensuring patient accounts are up-to-date, information is correct in the record, and patient charges are posted properly after the patient encounter.
Role and Responsibilities
Position Competencies:
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height and record patient medical history in EMR
- Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality with patient health and personal data (following HIPAA Laws and Regulations) and with company proprietary information
- Manage online scheduling system and proficient in EMR
- Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies
- Know and maintain professional communication skills: verbal, written, and non-verbal communication
Position Responsibilities:
Specific:
- Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians' instructions to patients
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean
- Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing
- Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician
- Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments or materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures
- Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses
- Greet and log in patients arriving at the office or clinic
- Perform general office duties, such as answering telephones, taking dictation, or completing insurance forms
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician
- Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies
- Change dressings on wounds
- Schedule appointments for patients
- Inventory and order medical, lab, or office supplies or equipment
- Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests or admission
- Operate x-ray, electrocardiogram (EKG), or other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests
- Set up medical laboratory equipment
- Keep financial records or perform other bookkeeping duties, such as handling credit or collections or mailing monthly statements to patients

- Qualifications and Education Requirements
Education: Minimum high school diploma or GED; completion of Medical Assistant Curriculum and/or college degree preferred. A combination of education and experience may be accepted
Experience: Minimum 1 year experience within a medical office or field, preferably in a Primary Care Setting
Certification/Licensure: Certified Medical Assistant at time of hire or within six months of hire. CPR/AED/First or BLS at time of hire or within 30 days of hire.
Training and Knowledge Required at Time of Hire: CPR/AED/First Aid knowledge. Strong customer service/patient care skills. Computer skills including knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, email, phone, texting, EMRs

Security Measures and Clearance: May require Level 2 Background
