Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical Biller to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical billing processes, coding systems, and medical terminology. This role is essential for ensuring accurate billing and collections for our medical services, contributing to the financial health of our organization.
Responsibilities
- Process and submit medical billing claims to insurance companies and patients in a timely manner.
- Review patient records to ensure accuracy in billing and coding, including ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes.
- Follow up on unpaid claims and resolve any discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation for all billing transactions.
- Communicate with healthcare providers, patients, and insurance companies regarding billing inquiries.
- Assist in the collection of payments from patients and insurance providers as needed.
Skills
- Proficiency in medical terminology and understanding of medical collection processes.
- Experience with medical billing systems and coding practices, including ICD-9 and ICD-10.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with medical office operations and procedures is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Submitting referrals to other providers with necessary documentation.
- Submitting prior authorizations for procedures and medications.
- Checking in and out patients through our EMR.
- Adding new patients and charts into our EMR system.
- Scheduling appointments.
- Returning messages and checking faxes.
Work with a nurse practitioner and a supervising family doctor to aid in the billing/referral/insurance portion of the care of our patients.
The system we use is Athena.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 20 per week
