Speech Aide

Summary of Job Responsibilities: The speech and language aide will primarily assist the speech and language pathologist with various tasks. The speech and language aide will be responsible for creating lesson materials for group and individual sessions, updating databases, programming/updating AAC devices, filing, scheduling, and collecting data. This position will serve both our Coventry and Warwick locations. Essential Functions and Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 1.Protect the rights and dignities of individuals with developmental disabilities and extend these rights and dignities to family members or guardians. 2.Uphold and comply with all safety programs and policies to maintain a safe work environment for employees, consumers, family members, and visitors. 3.Commit to organizational quality initiatives by participating in programs that assure quality improvements and team processes. 4.Follow all agency guidelines and department-specific policies, e.g., sick time or vacation time usage, call-in policies, dress codes, etc., as specified in the personnel manual. 5.Works as part of a team to support all students, classrooms, and staff to promote a safe and enriched learning environment. 6.Assist staff with the implementation of lessons/programs. 7.Provide support for group and individual therapy sessions. 8.Assisting with behavior management, preventative and responsive strategies, and data collection. 9.Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor related to the organization’s mission, goals, and operations. Internal/External Relationships: Internal: frequent – Pathways students and staff, speech and language pathologists, clinical director, and director of special education External: limited – community and students Working Conditions: These conditions include office and classroom conditions, such as working directly with students and staff. Additional considerations include working with computers and AAC devices and creating lesson materials. Physical and Mental Requirements: The ability to perform this job's essential function with reasonable accommodations is considered to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Ability to deal with a wide range of individuals and programmatic issues. Must have a valid driver’s license, safe driving record, automobile insurance, and access to a vehicle to be used as directed and when needed to transport. Must have and maintain pediatric CPR certification. Education, Experience, and Skills: Experience providing therapeutic services to children with autism in school, home, and community-based settings. Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis is preferred. A bachelor’s degree is required, with a preference for concentration in communication disorders or a related field.
