Position Summary
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Housing Specialist to join our mission-driven team in supporting individuals experiencing homelessness. In this role, you’ll be instrumental in coordinating and maintaining housing for our clients by managing vital administrative functions, fostering relationships with landlords, and ensuring seamless support throughout the housing process. Your work will directly contribute to our goal of creating secure and stable housing for the most vulnerable members of our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Landlord Account Management: Regularly review and reconcile landlord accounts, manage lease agreements, and maintain clear communication to ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation.
- Tenant Application Processing: Prepare, review, and submit tenant rental applications and renewals for local and federal programs, including ERAP, LRSP, VASH, and DC Housing Authority.
- Financial Coordination: Process rent payments, security deposits, and repair invoices; coordinate with Finance on damage claims and payment processing.
- Move-In Support: Coordinate furniture deliveries for new tenants, ensuring a smooth transition into their new homes.
- HUD Compliance and Inspections: Schedule annual apartment inspections and maintain meticulous records for HUD and other regulatory audits.
- Database Management: Maintain accurate records in databases like Credible, ensuring client information, lease agreements, and housing notifications are updated.
- Reporting and Documentation: Prepare and maintain various departmental reports, contributing to the overall efficiency of the housing unit.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience: At least two years of office experience, especially in roles supporting multiple individuals, is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and database systems is essential.
- Personal Attributes: Strong attention to detail, adaptability, patience, and compassion are key. You should also be comfortable and sensitive to working with diverse populations, including those with disabilities.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proactive approach to addressing inquiries and resolving issues.
