What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Peer Support Specialist position at Pathways to Life, Inc?
SUMMARY OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as additional support to the therapeutic team and provides expertise that professional training cannot replicate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Provides support to member during Individual counseling, Group Counseling and/or family counseling, training or support
Supports treatment activities that have been adapted or specifically designed for persons with physical disabilities or persons with co- occurring disorders of mental illness and substance abuse/ dependence or mental retardation/ developmental disability and substance abuse/ dependence
Assists members and team in employing Life Skills, Crisis contingency planning, and disease management and relapse prevention to include community and social support systems in treatment
Records accurate and informative daily progress notes using correct format according to Medicaid and area program guidelines which reflect treatment goals.
Provides coaching, mentoring, and consultation to the beneficiary to promote recovery, self-advocacy, and self-direction.
Promotes wellness management strategies, which includes delivering manualized interventions (e.g., Wellness Recovery Action Planning or Illness Management and Recovery);
Assists beneficiaries in developing psychiatric advance directives.
Models' recovery values, attitudes, beliefs, and personal action to encourage wellness and resilience
Provides consultation to team members to assist in understanding of recovery and the role of the Peer Support Specialists, promoting a culture in which beneficiaries’ points of view and references are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into treatment.
Serves as an active member of the ACT team, equivalent to other team members, which includes facilitating the Person Centered Planning process for beneficiaries assigned to him or her if a QP.
Supports and empowers the individual to exercise his or her legal rights within the community
Other tasks as assigned by supervisor or leadership staff.

LEVEL OF EDUCATION/TRAINING/QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have completed a DHHS-approved PSS training course that is a minimum of 40 hours and requires personal recommendations. To complete the certification process, PSS must also have 1 year of demonstrated recovery time between diagnosis and application as a PSS and must be a current or former member of services (mental health and/or substance abuse)
Must be registered with NC Substance Abuse Board and receiving supervision from a CCS or CSI and be credentialed at minimum as a paraprofessional according to 10A NCAC 27G
Must have the knowledge, skills and abilities required for population and age to be provided may deliver ACT. Paraprofessional level providers may not provide services in lieu of on-site service provision by a qualified professional, CCAS, CCS, CSI, or CSAC.
