JOB SUMMARY:
The Pharmacy Technician I is responsible for data entry of prescriptions into the pharmacy computer system and fulfillment under the direction of the Pharmacist and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the company, the state’s pharmacy regulations, and other regulatory entities. The Pharmacy Technician I assists Pharmacist(s) in assuring that prescribed medication(s) and supplies are prepared and dispensed as directed by Physician’s orders and shipped in the most efficient manner and/or to patient’s requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current, valid Pharmacy Technician license issued by the State of Florida.
- Minimum of 1 to 3 years of pharmacy technician experience preferred.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment preferred.
- Self-motivated; able to work independently.
- Detail oriented; strong organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Knowledge and understanding of USP Chapter 797.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to maintain relationships with both internal and external customers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn pharmacy software and other proprietary software programs.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work as part of a diverse team and promote a positive team environment.
- Working knowledge of Newleaf preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Train and participate in all administrative areas required as a pharmacy technician.
- Enter data into Newleaf and/or any other pharmacy-specific software.
- Accurately enter new prescriptions and compounding instructions, process refills, process formula changes, create delivery tickets and compounding worksheets, process new patient starts, and complete tasks as assigned.
- Perform appropriate calculations when required.
- Maintain patient profiles, enter progress notes, attach documents and enter lab values into Newleaf software.
- Answer phone calls and handle/triage appropriately.
- Perform quality check of daily patient orders, boxes, bins and delivery tickets.
- Work with warehouse to complete a final review of shipments.
- Communicate effectively through email with both internal and external customers.
- Appropriately capture patient notes and articulation of company policies and practices to clinics, clinicians, patients and vendors.
- Use the appropriate resources to effectively solve problems.
- Participate in cleaning activities as assigned in the cleanroom, anteroom and workroom per company policies.
- Clean and maintain equipment in the work areas according to USP 797 guidelines and the Florida State Board of Pharmacy regulations, and as outlined in company policies and procedures.
- Participate in sanitizing products and stocking the cleanroom.
- Successfully complete media fill testing annually and as required.
- Successfully complete all didactic training and process validations as required, including training required to compound sterile preparations using approved aseptic technique.
- Comply with all state and federal regulations and all company policies.
- Comply with all HIPAA and privacy policies and practices.
- Participate in routine check of expiration dates and quarterly inventory.
- Participate in the on-call rotation as scheduled.
- Collaborate with team members to meet deadlines and provide high quality patient care.
- Participate in team building activities and maintain a positive work environment.
- Maintain professionalism at all times.
- Perform any and all other essential job functions as assigned.
