One of our key clients in the energy industry is looking for an experienced Controller to join their team.
Controller
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”), the Controller will be responsible for oversight of all the accounting and reporting activities. The Controller will be involved in supporting presentations to the board and will work closely with senior management. The Controller will lead a team of two to four staff members with functional responsibility for accounting, accounts payable, payroll and general administrative support. The Controller will ensure the company uses the systems and procedures in place to properly account for the business activities and conduct unqualified audits. The Controller will work closely with retail management and their staff to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the accounting function can support the business operations.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
- Develop and maintain internal accounting controls
- Coordinate all audit activities
- Analyze financial data and present financial reports accurately and timely; prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Oversee monthly sales and operating tax reporting
- Oversee A/R function and communication with customers to collect past due balances.
- Oversee A/P function, including reviewing and processing invoices in Sage Intacct and preparing checks for payment
- Assist senior leadership in the annual budgeting and planning; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results
- Assist the CFO in the preparation of presentations to the board
- Prepare and submit loan covenant and reporting requirements
- Develop and train the accounting staff to perform their duties more effectively and efficiently
- Provide leadership to associates throughout the Company and create and promote a positive work environment
Qualifications
- Seven to ten years of accounting and finance experience
- A minimum BA or BS in accounting is preferred; CPA
- Proficient in GAAP accounting practices
- Experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and payroll
- Experienced in monthly closing processes
- Proficient with Word, Excel, and data entry
- Experienced with accounting and reporting software
- Commitment to mentoring and developing the accounting team; ability to delegate accordingly.
- Good organizational and analytical skills and ability to solve problems
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, experience in effectively communicating critical data and making presentations to senior management
