Our client, a well-established healthcare instrumentation manufacturer, who designs, develops, and manufactures liquid subassemblies and precision components for a range of applications requiring precise control and measurement, has an immediate opening for a Journeyman Machinist with demonstrated engineering expertise in the design of OEM fluidic systems and precision components. Responsibilities include the design and optimization of biotech product solutions for OEM instrumentation needs through the research of customer application challenges, extraction and definition of product requirements, specification creation, and expansion of concepts that address customers’ needs. This position will utilize mechanical engineering knowledge, problem solving skills and project management to drive projects through the product development process – from concept, to design, through validation, and into production scale-up. AA/AS degree with emphasis on Machine Tool Technology preferred in addition of five years of complex machining experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works with product managers, sales, and customers to define new product requirements.
- Applies engineering principles to design new products.
- Conducts design analysis, prototyping, experimentation, cost/benefit, and reliability of new products and enabling technologies in concept, design and pre-production phases.
- Analyzes designs for appropriate tolerances and design for manufacture.
- Ensures release to manufacturing documentation is reviewed, accurate, complete, and contains clear and comprehensive assembly and test instructions.
- Supports investigation, analysis and problem solving of quality items.
- Develops expertise on relevant technologies and products.
- Investigates and remains current on new technology to generate new product ideas.
- Communicates clearly and effectively with internal and external functional teams – orally, in written form, and via presentations.
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of a Machinist Apprenticeship Program or similar degree/certification
- Adept at using CAD software (SolidWorks) to create detailed models and drawings.
- Proven ability to design precision mechanical components and assemblies
- Knowledge of various manufacturing processes including precision machining, injection molding, and extrusion.
- Knowledge of engineering plastics and their applications.
- Experience with fluid control and electro-mechanical devices (solenoid valves, pumps, sensors, test equipment).
- Experience in the application of FEA to engineering problems.
- Experience applying mathematical and computational analysis to solve engineering problems.
- Demonstrated ability to complete tasks and effectively manage time to meet deadlines.
- Willing to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift as necessary to maintain production
- Proficiency in the use of business software tools (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint) and a proven ability to quickly learn and use new software tools.
- Ability to lift up to 50
Compensation: $30 to $38 per hour
