Purpose of Position:
The Accessibility Specialist plays a key role in coordinating academic support services and accommodations for students with disabilities. This includes reviewing educational and medical documentation to assess students’ academic needs and implementing appropriate accommodations. Responsibilities include organizing notetaking services, obtaining educational materials in accessible formats (e.g., electronic, audio, Braille), facilitating adaptive testing, and providing training and technical support on assistive technology to students, faculty, and staff. Success in this role requires adaptability to new technologies and the ability to thrive in diverse environments. The ideal candidate is compassionate, well-organized, communicative, and flexible; and other duties assigned.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Services, or equivalent experience
- Prior experience in educational student services, particularly in supporting students with disabilities, is required.
- Thorough understanding of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and all relevant state and federal regulations pertaining to disability services in higher education.
- Experience supporting diverse populations and handling sensitive and confidential situations and information.
- Experience providing intake services and assessing individuals with disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff across diverse backgrounds.
