What are the responsibilities and job description for the College Success Coach position at Patrick & Henry Community College?
P&HCC is hiring a College Success Coach. The successful candidate will provide student services support by recruiting and case managing a minimum of 300 adult students who are deemed “at risk” based on the following data descriptions: minority, Pell award recipient, or first-generation student. The position and data descriptions are all generated from The VCCS Chancellor’s College Success Coach Initiative.
Required Qualifications:
- Education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as counseling, human services, social services, or adult education.
- Work experience in counseling or academic coaching is preferred.
- Applicants must possess a driver’s license and the ability to provide their own transportation to meet with students in various college locations throughout the service region.
- Ability to assess the skills, needs, interests, and aptitudes of clients and provide personalized advice on career and postsecondary options.
- Ability to develop individual action and academic plans with clients that will lead to program completion.
- Strong interpersonal skills to help engage, provide support, and motivate customers.
- Knowledge of and links to financial aid services including financial aid available through colleges and the workforce system.
- Knowledge and understanding of the network of available state and local support services and related resources and how to access them.
- Academic and Career counseling skills.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of specific needs of underserved populations in order to attain educational success.
- Ability to work with college faculty and staff in support of student academic success.
- Communication and marketing skills.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and social media.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
