Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) to lead and oversee all aspects of the company’s accounting operations. The CAO will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the company’s financial records while driving the development of accounting strategies to support business growth and financial goals. This leadership position will require collaboration with senior management and other departments to drive operational efficiency and deliver high-quality financial reporting.
- Lead and manage the accounting department, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, legal requirements, and internal policies.
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analysis, ensuring alignment with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Establish, implement, and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors to support annual audits and resolve issues. Ensure proper tax compliance and reporting.
- Provide strategic accounting insights to senior management, offering recommendations to improve financial performance, reduce costs, and support strategic business decisions.
- Lead the development of the company's annual budget, forecasts, and financial projections, working closely with the CFO and other department leaders.
- Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff, promoting a high-performance culture. Conduct performance reviews and provide career development opportunities.
- Identify and implement process improvements, new accounting technologies, and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the accounting function.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations as well as industry standards. Stay updated on changes in tax laws, accounting standards, and financial regulations.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks, including ensuring adequate insurance, handling litigation, and overseeing risk management strategies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent professional certification required. MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. Experience in managing a large accounting team in a publicly traded company or large private organization is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP or IFRS, financial reporting, tax laws, and accounting systems (e.g., ERP). Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, with experience in managing and developing a high-performing accounting team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Proven track record of ethical decision-making, confidentiality, and the ability to uphold the highest standards of financial integrity.
