Position Overview:
A Fire Protection Fitter is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire sprinkler systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. This role ensures that systems are installed according to national and local fire codes, safety regulations, and manufacturer specifications to protect life and property.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and Assembly:
- Install and assemble fire sprinkler systems, pipes, valves, and fittings in accordance with blueprints and specifications.
- Secure piping and other components using brackets, clamps, and tools.
- Maintenance and Repairs:
- Inspect fire sprinkler systems for functionality and compliance with local codes and standards.
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair malfunctioning components.
- Testing:
- Conduct hydrostatic and operational tests to ensure system reliability.
- Work with fire inspectors to ensure systems meet safety and compliance standards.
- Blueprint and Code Compliance:
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Ensure systems comply with NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards and local building codes.
- Safety and Documentation:
- Adhere to workplace safety regulations and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and inspections.
- Provide recommendations for system upgrades or replacements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a fire protection fitter or similar role.
- Clean 7-year MVR
- Negative Drug Screen
- On-Call Rotation Required
- Knowledge of fire sprinkler systems, piping methods, and tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and technical documents.
- Familiarity with NFPA codes and local fire safety regulations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Physical ability to work in various environments, including heights and confined spaces.
- Effective communication skills for working with clients, contractors, and inspectors.
Education and Certifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an apprenticeship program in fire sprinkler fitting or related trade (preferred).
- Valid driver’s license (if travel is required).
Work Environment:
- Construction sites, existing buildings, and industrial facilities.
- May involve work in varying conditions, including outdoor environments and at heights.
- Use of protective gear and adherence to strict safety protocols is required.
