Job Summary:
Patriot Response Group is seeking knowledgeable FEMA Substantial Damage
Estimator (SDE) Inspectors to join our disaster response team in Florida.
Inspectors in this role will evaluate residential and commercial properties to
determine the extent of disaster-related damage and compliance with FEMA
guidelines for substantial damage assessments.
As an SDE Inspector, you will play a vital role in post-disaster recovery by
assessing structural conditions, determining substantial damage, and supporting
compliance with National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) regulations. This role
requires collaboration with local officials, property owners, and stakeholders to
gather and analyze critical data for damage assessments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed inspections of residential and commercial properties to assess disaster-related damage, including flooding and structural impacts.
- Use the FEMA Substantial Damage Estimator (SDE) tool to collect and document property conditions, including structural and utility components.
- Record and organize findings with photos, measurements, and notes, ensuring compliance with FEMA protocols.
- Input and manage data in the SDE software, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.
- Collaborate with local officials, property owners, and contractors.
- Generate detailed reports summarizing findings and recommending compliance with floodplain management requirements.
- Assist communities with disaster recovery operations, including regulatory compliance, permit issuance, and mitigation planning.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; additional training or certifications in construction, inspection, or disaster recovery are preferred.
- At least four (4) years of experience in building inspections, damage assessments, or related fields.
- Prior experience in floodplain management, civil engineering, environmental science, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of FEMA floodplain regulations, flood mapping systems, and flood risk assessment techniques.
- Proficiency with the FEMA SDE tool or equivalent software.
- Knowledge of FEMA’s NFIP regulations and floodplain management principles.
- Familiarity with local zoning laws, building codes, and floodplain management best practices.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret floodplain maps, site plans, and technical data.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field sites.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform field inspections in various weather conditions and terrains.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50lbs
- Comfortable walking on uneven ground and climbing to inspect areas affected by flood risks.
- Ability to work long hours during peak inspection seasons.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in floodplain management (CFM) or related credentials is a plus.
- Experience with GIS software for mapping and floodplain analysis.
- Familiarity with stormwater management systems and flood mitigation technologies.
Work Environment:
- Primarily field-based work, requiring frequent site visits to floodplain areas.
- Fieldwork across various Florida locations, including challenging disaster- impacted areas.
- Inspections may involve exposure to adverse conditions such as flood zones or damaged structures.
- Collaborative work environment with frequent interaction with government agencies, property owners, and contractors.
