Patterson & Dewar Engineers, Inc. is currently seeking a Land Surveying Instrument Operator. Candidate must be a responsible, highly motivated and a detail-oriented individual interested in joining our Land Surveying team working throughout Georgia and around the southeast at times. The successful candidate must be able to work in a team environment as a key member of a survey crew, assisting in the performance of boundary, ALTA, topographic, right-of-way acquisition, transmission line, transportation, and construction surveys utilizing the latest equipment and surveying technology. The position has the opportunity for advancement for a motivated individual.

Responsibilities

· Assist the field supervisor/party chief with all aspects of the daily crew workload

· Operate total stations (robotic and conventional) along with GPS units

· Work in a safe manner and obey all safety regulations

· Work independently as a one-person crew as required

· Daily uploading and downloading of survey data collectors

· Daily care and charging of instrumentation

· Continually advance knowledge with upgrades in technology

· Upkeep of survey vehicles, survey tools, and supplies

· Ability to think on the fly and do basic survey/math computations

Required Skills and Qualifications

· High School diploma

· Able to clear lines with a machete or brush ax

· Knowledge of the basic principles, techniques, and practices of land surveying

· Experience using GPS equipment

· Ability to operate motorized equipment such as an ATV/UTV

· Knowledge of First Aid / CPR

· Ability to take concise and legible notes

· Ability to work outdoors under various field conditions and weather

· Dependable and willing to travel Monday thru Friday

· Current valid driver's license

Preferred Skills

· At least 2 years of progressive related land survey experience as Instrument person in boundary, topo, route, construction staking, ALTA’s

· Familiarity with Leica and/or Trimble survey equipment

· Familiar with Carlson SurvCE

· Experience with Laser Scanning equipment

Instrument Operator may be asked to work extended hours occasionally to meet project deadlines. Candidates must pass a background check and drug test prior to employment.
