Overview
Patterson Lumber Co., Inc. is a fourth-generation family operated hardwood sawmill producing 10 million feet annually. Its North Central Pennsylvania location is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, making it a top destination for hunting, hiking, fishing and star gazing.
We are seeking to add a Lumber Grader for our kiln dried inspection line. The Hardwood Lumber Grader is a vital position in the lumber production process. They accurately inspect and properly grade hardwood lumber to the standards set by the NHLA and in-house standards.
Responsibilities
- Examine, grade, and accurately mark lumber to be sorted by grade, thickness and length for sale.
- Apply grading rules and guidelines to determine the grade of lumber based on visual appearance, size, and characteristics. Also decide if the boards can be upgraded and sent to a remanufacturing area to increase the value of any lumber.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Collaborate with coworkers in a positive and respectful manner.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must have completed an approved NHLA lumber inspection course.
- Knowledge of lumber species, characteristics, and terminology.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately assess lumber quality and defects.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Prolonged periods of standing and or sitting.
- Ability to climb stairs.
- Capable of working accurately and quickly.
- Able to work in an environment that experiences temperature changes.
