Brief Description:
The Motor Shop Supervisor will oversee personnel and work quality of the Mpact Motor Shops located in Conroe, TX and Midland, TX. This role will oversee all shop technicians and leads in ensuring all mud motors are built properly within our designated QC, HSE and Engineering standards. This role will work closely with the QC, engineering, supply chain, warehousing, machine shop, logistics and operations teams to ensure product delivery at all times.
The Motor Shop Supervisor works under the direction of the Repair and Maintenance Director.
Detailed Description:
- Oversee tear down and build of all mud motors in every function of the motor shop
- Implement and maintain effective QA/QC procedures during teardown and production
- Develop, coordinate, implement, and report production schedules and activities of the motor shop department
- Review processing schedules and production orders to make decisions concerning forecast and delivery, inventory requirements, staffing needs, work procedures, and duty assignments while considering budgetary limitations and time constraints
- Develop and/or optimize motor shop work process to streamline all elements of production while assuring complete compliance with HSE and OSHA policies and practices
- Develop and implement production tracking and sustain quality control systems, analyzing production, quality control, and other operational reports, to detect, anticipate, and pro-actively solve production problems
- Oversee documentation of inspections, test results, repair work done, cleanliness and organization of the shop
- Maximize machine utilization and on-time performance, and identify unusual noises that signify equipment and machinery problems
- Hire, train, evaluate, discharge staff, and resolve employee relations issues in collaboration with the R&M Director and Human Resources
- Provide training of lower-level technicians, answering work questions, resolving operating difficulties and reviewing completed work assignments
- Develop, train, coach the career development of all shop leads
- Perform all tasks as required of a Safety Sensitive position and ensure any unsafe situations are reported to appropriate HSE team member if necessary
- Make recommendations with the goal of reducing production time, reducing processing time, and/or increasing Safety. Such recommendations may include the acquisition of equipment where cost effective
- Become familiar with company accounting and manufacturing software and incorporate that software into the shop processes
- Possess an ability to work independently in troubleshooting and resolving problems concerning operations
- Direct technicians and leads on secondary operations on components parts as required, and possess ability to assess worn parts to determine whether they need to be repaired or replaced
- Perform detailed analysis of the component parts configuration/dimensions to determine efficiency in machining operations required for production
- Collaborate with engineering and fellow supervisory personnel to troubleshoot and resolve design equipment and work through operating difficulties
- Coordinate and recommend procedures for facility and equipment maintenance or modification, including the replacement of machines
- Assist the Operations leadership to develop and monitor operational budget while participating in cost reduction initiatives
- Participate in Research & Development activities as needed
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Strong working knowledge of mud motors, processes, and procedures
- Ability to speak, write and read English effectively, and communicate with all levels of company personnel, vendors and customers
- Clear vision to judge near and far distances to maintain awareness of reporting ongoing work activities to coworkers and third party
- Strong problem-solving, business acumen, and analytical skills
- Strong coaching and training skills
- Basic knowledge of principles of inventory control
- Demonstrated proficiency and presentation skills with MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects daily in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Able to work independently or as part of a team on a broad variety of projects
- Willingness to work additional hours to meet tight deadlines
- Ability to lead by example and be a good mentor to junior employees
- Demonstrate clear written and verbal communication skills, including ability to promptly give and follow directions when working with others
- Ability to safely navigate the shop work sites with occasional walking, climbing, standing, stepping, etc. during normal operating conditions (day/night, outdoor hot/cold weather)
- Lift and carry 50 pounds independently while potentially walking on uneven surfaces
- Bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and crawl occasionally during visits to field and operational work areas
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all designated times
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 2 years of experience leading and/or training personnel
- 5 years of experience in the Oil and Gas industry with a heavy focus on MWD and Directional Drilling
- Able and willing to travel as needed
- Eligible to meet requirements to drive on Company business and pass a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree
- Live within a 1 hour driving distance of the shop
- Oracle experience
Additional Details:
The Motor Shop Supervisor must work with an emphasis on safety for themselves and others including coworkers and third parties. The typical work environment will be in the shop or field which will require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, working near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals and airborne particles.
