Position Summary
Pattison Company is hiring a Rail Loadout Operations Supervisor to join our team in Clayton, Iowa. This leadership role will support and oversee the daily functions of our rail loadout operations, ensuring that all loading procedures, safety practices, and employee tasks align with company standards. The Supervisor will work closely with the Operations Manager and be responsible for training, coaching, and directing team members, as well as collaborating with the railroad and internal departments to ensure smooth, timely shipments of aggregate materials and silica sand. Primary Responsibilities
- Schedule and coordinate inspections and sampling to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Supervise loading processes, train service, and switching operations, including coordination with connecting carriers.
- Monitor adherence to safety and operating rules for track, equipment, and train operations.
- Manage employee performance: hiring, training, coaching, assigning tasks, conducting evaluations, and addressing corrective actions as needed.
- Conduct regular audits for safety, training compliance, production, and quality.
- Oversee rail equipment including locomotives, rail cars, and car weight monitoring systems.
- Ensure routine maintenance of railcars, track, and related equipment.
- Maintain and report operational records including inventory, inspections, and performance data.
- Develop daily task lists based on inspections, maintenance logs, and loading schedules.
- Identify and implement process improvements and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Assist in resolving technical or staffing issues on-site.
- Support staff development by establishing growth plans and clarifying job priorities.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Proficient in English (verbal and written).
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Familiar with rail and processing equipment including locomotives, railcars, conveyors, and mobile machinery.
- Ability to stand on uneven surfaces for extended periods and perform tasks requiring bending, climbing, and lifting.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Able to work up to 12-hour shifts and wear a half-mask respirator as required.
Education & Work Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
- Previous experience in rail operations strongly preferred.
Certifications & Licenses
- MSHA Part 48 certification required (Training available on-site).
- Valid driver’s license required for all Pattison Company employees unless deemed non-essential to the position by HR.
