- Develops and administers physical education classes consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Teaches knowledge of, and develops skills and abilities in physical fitness, rhythm and dance, coordination and agility, exercise, and sports.
- Develops students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and provides appropriate feedback regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational activities and modifies instructional methods to meet individual student's needs.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the education field by attending seminars, workshops, professional development, department/district meetings, and/or by conducting research.
- Keeps accurate and complete record regarding grading and attendance as required by district/building procedures/policies.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and their parents/guardians.
- Ensures that student behavior conforms to school/district policies and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve an effective learning environment.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, participates in faculty meetings, and attends professional development.
- Selects appropriate learning materials/instructional tools consistent with district curriculum.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal(s).
- Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy as well as differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and their parents/guardians.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted.
- Missouri State Certification in Physical Education K-12.
- Bachelors or masters degree from an accredited college or university.
