- Under the general supervision of the school principal(s), to develop students' skills and competence in science.
- Promotes critical and creative thinking and analysis.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for subject area, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to challenge students and best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of science including scientific research projects, demonstrations, experiments, and laboratory activities.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress.
- Modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs and conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge in the educational field by attending seminars, professional development, workshops, department/district meetings, and/or by conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student learning and attendance as required by district/building procedures.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and their parents/guardians.
- Ensures that student behavior conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student conduct needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Coordinates with other staff members and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects appropriate learning materials/instructional tools consistent with district curriculum.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal(s).
- Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy as well as differentiated instruction.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and their parents/guardians.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Missouri Biology 9-12 certification
- Missouri General/Unified Science or Physics 9-12 certification
- Bachelors/masters degree from an accredited college or university.
