Paul D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. Campuses are located in Franklin and Suffolk. There also is a center in Smithfield. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates In transfer and career/technical programs; credit and non-credit workforce services and training for businesses and industries; special interest classes for the community; and summer classes for youth through the Regional Workforce Development Center. A dual enrollment program for high school students, online courses, and developmental studies classes are available at the college as well.
Assist the Financial Aid Coordinator by performing entry-level support and learning daily financial aid processes for the Franklin campus primarily. Provide excellent customer service for financial aid and veteran students at all CAMP locations, when needed. Learn to perform various daily, weekly and monthly processes according to established policies and procedures. Manage confidential student record files with a high degree of accuracy. Develop strategies to improve communication and office efficiency.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office and databases, preferably PeopleSoft.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritizing multiple projects effectively, and adapting to competing deadlines.
- Experience maintaining confidential, accurate, organized and up-to-date client files and records.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; including public speaking.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Working knowledge of financial aid processes, including how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as a member of a team; working collaboratively with other stakeholders to accomplish college goals.
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions according to established policy and procedure, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include some evenings and weekends during busy peak times.
- Ability to learn and work remotely, when necessary for continuity of college operations.
- Knowledge of Student Information Systems required, PeopleSoft preferred.
- Current work experience with public contact in a higher education environment, especially with financial aid or veterans.
- Skill in bookkeeping, specifically reconciliation of accounts.
- General knowledge of federal tax code (e.g. IRS Publication 17 filing status rules).
- Demonstrated ability to interpret policy, analyze financial aid problems and take corrective action.
