What are the responsibilities and job description for the Workforce Career Coach position at Paul D. Camp Community College?
Paul D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. Campuses are located in Franklin and Suffolk. There also is a center in Smithfield. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates In transfer and career/technical programs; credit and non-credit workforce services and training for businesses and industries; special interest classes for the community; and summer classes for youth through the Regional Workforce Development Center. A dual enrolment program for high school students, online courses, and developmental studies classes are available at the college as well.
The Workforce Career Coach is responsible for connecting with and assisting individuals who are enrolled in Fast Forward programs at Camp to support their completion and credentialing success. The Credentialing Coach will play a key role in transitioning students through program completion and credentialing. The Credentialing Coach will serve as an advisor and guide for current students and recent completers.
The Workforce Career Coach will assist interested individuals by providing guidance in identifying academic and non-academic needs and connecting those individuals to resources in a supportive and professional manner. The Career Coach will be a liaison to local high school students interested in taking Workforce FastForward programs. The Career Coach will communicate with students on a regular basis and engage them individually and/or in small groups in preparation for credentialing examinations. The Career Coach will communicate with student services and other college personnel to ensure that students have access to resources and support that will lead to completion of their workforce program, and successful completion of the program credential. The Career Coach will collaborate with instructors, program managers and students to develop remediation plans to address knowledge and skill deficiencies. The Career coach will capture appropriate data on outreach, student communications, and other interactions. The Career Coach will assist the Workforce Services team in tracking credential attainment and following up with completers to encourage credential completion and acquire documentation of earned credentials.
This is a Grant-Funded Restricted Full-time position.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

- Demonstrated ability to communicate both orally and in writing
- Ability to represent the college to individuals and groups of diverse backgrounds
- Knowledge and understanding of the community college mission, particularly as it relates to Workforce Development
- Ability to work collaboratively with all constituents and stakeholders
- Proficient working knowledge of Internet applications and PC-based software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage responsibilities effectively to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and work in a team environment with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to identify students’ needs for support services in order to make appropriate referrals
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines by managing projects simultaneously, prioritizing and setting goals to include those in a specialized population
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data and develop plans based on strategic goals
