Job Summary
A Child Nutrition Director oversees the school district's nutrition programs, ensuring compliance with regulations, managing staff, planning nutritious meals, and optimizing the food service operation for students and staff.
Responsibilities
- Plans, organizes, and directs the district's Child Nutrition Program, adhering to policies, procedures, and federal/state requirements.
- Develops and maintains high standards of food preparation and service, emphasizing menu appeal and nutritional value.
- Assesses customer preferences, industry trends, and current research to plan menus that encourage participation in the CNP.
- Staff Supervision and Training:
- Supervises and trains food service personnel.
- Creates and manages work schedules and payroll for cafeteria workers.
- Evaluates staff performance and provides training and development opportunities.
- Menu Planning and Food Preparation:
- Assists in menu planning, production record preparation, and review.
- Works with school staff, teachers, parents, and physicians to plan menus for children with special nutrition needs.
- Ensures the availability of healthy food options and sets food presentation standards.
- Financial Management:
- Installs and operates inventory and financial control systems.
- Projects operational costs, appropriations, and revenues.
- Prepares justification for budget requests.
- Recommends meal and supplemental prices.
- Other Duties:
- Provides resources to cafeteria coordinators.
- Sets up equipment repair activities.
- Develops and implements a comprehensive nutrition education program.
- Tracks revenue and spending by sources.
- Oversees payment of bills.
- Maintains fixed asset inventory.
- Monitors and controls food costs and reduces waste.
Skills and Qualifications:
