We are excited to announce an opportunity for a part-time Fire Tower Ambassador to join our team at the Paul Smith's College Visitor Interpretive Center (VIC). As a Fire Tower Ambassador, you will play a key role in sharing the rich history and cultural significance of the Adirondack Mountains with visitors from diverse backgrounds.
About the Job:
As a Fire Tower Ambassador, you will be stationed on the summit of St. Regis Mountain, interacting with visitors and educating them on the historical and cultural values of the mountain, the New York State Fire Tower Network, the Adirondack Forest Preserve, and responsible stewardship and recreation. You will also be responsible for performing trail work and tower maintenance/restoration duties as time allows.
Requirements:
- All education and experience levels are considered; applicants with coursework in natural resources, environmental studies, environmental science, education, recreation, history, or related fields are preferred.
- Ability to work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to form a safe and inclusive workplace.
- Capable of working independently and in inclement weather.
- High level of motivation and enthusiasm, willing to initiate interaction with the public.
- Ability to spend extended amounts of time on your feet and hike the mountain for each workday.
- Ability to work all weekends & holidays (required).
