Public Defender

Job Summary
The Public Defender is responsible for providing legal representation to individuals who cannot afford to hire an attorney. This role requires a strong commitment to justice and the ability to advocate effectively on behalf of clients in various legal matters, including criminal defense and juvenile matters. The Public Defender will work closely with clients to understand their needs, develop case strategies, and represent them in court proceedings.

Duties

• Conduct thorough legal research using tools such as to prepare for cases.
• Represent clients in court by litigating cases effectively and advocating for their rights.
• Negotiate plea deals and settlements on behalf of clients when appropriate.
• Draft legal documents, including motions, briefs, and appeals, ensuring clarity and compliance with legal standards.
• Maintain detailed case files and documentation to track progress and outcomes.
• Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations that may impact cases.

Skills

• Proficient in legal research techniques.
• Strong writing skills for drafting legal documents clearly and persuasively.
• Ability to litigate effectively in various court settings.
• Knowledge of Juvenile Courts is advantageous.
• Excellent negotiation skills to advocate for favorable outcomes for clients.
• Strong analytical skills to assess case details and develop effective strategies.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to work in a collaberative team setting

Education

Must be a member of the State Bar of Georgia or eligible to sit for the next exam

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $77,000.00 per year

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday
• Weekends as needed

License/Certification:

• Georgia Bar License (Preferred)

Ability to Commute:

• Dallas, GA 30132 (Required)

Ability to Relocate:

• Dallas, GA 30132: Relocate before starting work (Required)
