PAVE Academy Charter School is a public charter school in Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY that prepares Kindergarten to 8th-grade students to thrive in competitive high schools and four-year colleges. PAVE provides its students with a rigorous academic program and a community built on the organization’s core values of Perseverance, Achievement, Vibrance, and Excellent Character (PAVE). Founded in 2008, PAVE’s college preparatory school model prepares students to gain access to the competitive high schools that will place them on a path of expanded opportunities, and empower them to access lives of choice. PAVE educates 490 Kindergarten – 8th-grade scholars each school year. Across our student population, 87 percent of our students are eligible for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program (FRLP); 23 percent are students with special needs, and 10 percent are English Language Learners (ELL).
Opportunity Summary
PAVE Red Hook seeks an Academic Dean to be responsible for overseeing, coaching and supporting classroom teachers in designated grades to achieve high academic results for all PAVE students. The Academic Dean will work with the Instructional Leadership Team, teachers, parents, students, and outside instructional consultants. Reporting directly to the Principal and serving as an essential member of the Instructional Leadership Team, the Academic Dean will work closely with the Dean of Students, other Academic Deans and the Principal to establish a strong achievement centered culture; coach all teachers to excellence using data to inform decisions; ensure the functionality of systems that support student achievement; and design targeted individual and group professional development for teachers. The Academic Dean will bring highly effective coaching and teaching practices to shape culture, results, and expectations around what is possible for children at PAVE.

- Collaborate with the Principal, Dean of Students, and Academic Deans to foster a positive, achievement-oriented culture.
- Design and implement professional development for teachers and staff.
- Coordinate assessments, both in-house and external.
- Work with the Instructional Leadership Team to achieve PAVE’s strategic goals.
- Lead and refine standards-based assessment strategies to cultivate a data-driven culture.
- Monitor student achievement data to track progress toward proficiency goals.
- Implement PAVE's rigorous, college preparatory curriculum.
- Regularly review assessments, unit plans, and lesson plans.
- Establish performance goals for instructional staff and contribute to their evaluations.
- Collaborate with Grade Team Leads to address grade-level goals and challenges.
- Provide feedback on instructional practices to promote continuous improvement.
- Facilitate cross-class observations and co-planning sessions to share effective practices.
- Develop an annual action plan with the Principal, incorporating needs assessment and goal setting.
- Model instruction and co-teach to support classroom teachers.
- Work with outside instructional vendors and consultants.
- Teach as needed.
- Perform any other responsibilities assigned by the Principal.
