Join a dynamic team as a Process Safety Engineer at their state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Gurnee, IL (Chicago metro area). This high-visibility position will lead and support site-wide Process Safety Management (PSM) strategies while working with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in safety, environmental performance, and operational efficiency.
What You'll Do π
- Lead and facilitate Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) programs to identify, evaluate, and control potential process hazards
- Spearhead the development and implementation of PSM standards and best practices across the facility
- Manage critical PSM elements including Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), and Process Safety Information (PSI)
- Conduct Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) studies
- Drive continuous improvement through KPI tracking and implementation of corrective actions
- Provide technical expertise for process design reviews and hazard studies
- Lead incident investigations related to PSM/RMP-covered processes
- Develop and deliver process safety training programs
- Collaborate with project engineers on new equipment design and commissioning
What You'll Bring π―
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering
- 5 years of chemical industry operating experience with strong focus on Process Safety Management
- Proven experience as a PHA and LOPA facilitator
- Expertise in PSM elements including MOC, PSSR, and PSI
- Experience with process hazard analysis methodologies (HAZOP, PHA)
- Strong background in overpressure calculations and risk assessment
- Six Sigma or Lean Enterprise experience preferred
- ISO, cGMP, and Food Safety quality systems knowledge is a plus
- Outstanding leadership, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and cross-functional team collaboration skills
