Become a member of a premier dog walking and pet sitting service in Norwalk, CT and the surrounding area!

We are searching for a dependable and motivated dog walker/pet sitter to add to our ever-growing team. This is the perfect part-time dog walking and cat sitting opportunity if you are interested in working with a variety of breeds and animals in a fun learning environment. This is an ideal position if you are looking to supplement your income, work while pursuing a degree, working as a freelancer, or looking to re-enter the workforce while working hands-on with animals. Paws Bark Play L.L.C. is an in-home pet sitting and dog walking service. We're looking for great people who share our obsession for pets and providing amazing customer service!

The position:

  • Professional Pet Sitter (providing cat care and dog walking/sitting services)

Get paid to…

  • Visit dogs and cats who light up when they see you
  • Relieve stress by playing and cuddling with furry friends
  • Get away from your desk and enjoy some fresh air
  • Get in your 10,000 steps

This job is a great fit for:

  • Food or beverage servers
  • Freelancers who work from home and have flexible schedules
  • Empty nest Moms who are passionate about pets and want to get exercise and unconditional love
  • Professional dog walkers/pet sitters

Responsibilities:

  • Pet Sitting: Visit our clients' homes 1-4 times per day (morning, mid day, dinner and evening) to walk, feed and care for their pet(s) while they travel.
  • Overnight/House Sitting: Spend the night in our client's homes; starting at 7pm & ending at 7am. Plant care and collecting mail may be needed, as well as additional requests made by client.
  • Dog Walking: Visit our clients' homes to walk dogs while their owners are at work (neighborhood walks, trails, beach or park visits).

Basic requirements:

  • MUST genuinely love animals! If you don’t sincerely love animals and enjoy being around them, job performance will be compromised, and clients will be able to see it
  • Be physically fit and able to work and commute in all types of weather (even rainy, humid and hot days)
  • Be comfortable disposing of pet waste and occasionally cleaning up stains like vomit, hairballs, urine, etc
  • Have a reliable vehicle with current insurance, and valid drivers’ license
  • Clean driving record
  • Must be able arrive at client homes at the time/within the window requested or agreed to
  • Able to provide a current and clean background check
  • Be 100% reliable (we’ll do our best to cover emergencies but “calling in sick” or dropping out last minute is not an option, as the pets in your care depend on you)
  • Ideally, you will be available for a minimum of 3 split shifts a week
  • You must be at least 18 years of age to apply
  • Reside within lower Fairfield County
  • Smartphone (preferably newer)
  • Long-term commitment
  • Car large enough to transport multiple pets
  • Easy to reach

Skills Needed:

  • Professional training experience not required, but must be knowledgeable on dog and cat behavior and needs
  • Understand how to calm anxious pets
  • Encourage shy or withdrawn pets to approach and bond with you
  • Identify possible health problems
  • How to avoid/prevent possible fights when taking dogs to parks/public areas
  • Understand and know how to prevent and address potential problems such as pets escaping, eating/chewing dangerous items, preventing “potty” accidents, etc.
  • Must possess good interpersonal skills in order to build rapport with pet owners
  • Good at meeting and starting conversations with new people
  • Respond promptly when contacted by clients
  • Update clients with details and pictures of their pet during your visit
  • Identify, understand and address potential concerns clients may have
  • Build a trusting and comfortable interpersonal relationship with pet owners
  • Basic medication administration (training provided)
  • Reward-based methods, such as wholesome freeze-dried treats, high-pitched praise and various forms of affection to promote positive behavior
  • Supervision in off-leash play, whether it's playful bouts of wrestling, chases, keep-away or fetch
