Community Engagement and Development Specialist
Salary: $72,000
The Community Engagement and Development Specialist will support the Pawtucket School Department’s mission to provide students with equitable access to high quality learning. This role will support the development efforts of students and deliver direct job counseling placement, workshop/training, career development, and access to job opportunities within various post graduation areas. This program aims to provide hands-on individualized and group training including:
• Support students and families with understanding graduation requirements and assisting schools and students with credit recovery and FASFA applications.
• Design services and provide individualized job counseling services to students who are job seekers from diverse and multicultural backgrounds, development of educational workshops/training, and work with partners and be part of the workforce development network.
• Pre-Employment: Job readiness and individualized counseling, resume writing, goal setting, interview skills and prep, job search, job skills (self-management, and transferable), work readiness, and skill building training.
• Facilitate community workshops, training sessions, and events that prepare those partnering with the district for active participation in community growth initiatives.
• Monitor and evaluate program outcomes and make adjustments as necessary to ensure overall readiness success.
• Collaborate with internal teams to align initiatives with the organizational priorities of the Pawtucket School District.
• Assist in organizing and leading community events, meetings and other outreach activities such as supporting school attendance initiatives district-wide.
• Post-Placement: this supports six months of post-placement service, which is a critical component to ensure that sustainable employment outcomes are tracked.
• Job Retention: Job coaching to check-in with job seekers after placement, and strengthen partnership with employers to ensure job retention.
• Develop and/or coordinate educational programs for job seekers in collaboration with partners and/or instructors. The educational programs should be tailored to build skills of job seekers in term of readiness to obtain a job, like resume writing, preparation and skills for job interviewing, industry and career specific workshops.
Participate in program development team meetings, and other committees and discussion groups as required by the Supervisor of Community Service.
• Promote the program in meetings and in presentations as required to create awareness and increase visibility of the program and services.
• Assist with fundraising efforts to secure funding for the program.
• Track and report program performance data and outcomes for the purpose of reporting to funders and obtaining grants for the program.
• Contribute to meet department and program goals as planned for the year.
• Be part of strategic planning discussions to establish and grow the workforce program. As well as part of the organization's strategic planning discussions.
Coordinate work as needed with the Reentry Programs Job Placement Manager/staff to reduce • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor of Community Service.
Bachelors with two years experience related to workforce development or Masters
• A person with experience in workforce development, job placement, and program management.
• Required at least three years of experience in workforce development and/or providing individualized and group placement.
• Experience assisting job seekers to explore resources to secure jobs
• Have negotiation and problem resolution skills and be able to find solutions that integrate the interests of program participants and the involving parties.
• Be able to provide the appropriate support and action plan to address employment needs and meet their objectives to securing employment.
• Experience managing multiple projects at the same time and multitasking, in occasions under stress, and meet deadlines.
• Have organization skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, interpersonal skills and multicultural understanding when working with clients, partners and allies.
• Have excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point), including spreadsheet, internet, and social media proficiency.
• Have great communication skills and ability to follow up with partners and program participants utilizing multiple communication channels.
Work Environment: This role requires flexibility to attend community events outside of standard business hours and may involve occasional travel to partner sites.
