What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Maintenance: Electrician position at Pawtucket School Department?
Building Maintenance: Electrician position provides electrical and HVAC services to all school department buildings, specifically identifying repair and/or replacement needs and installing and/or upgrading electrical systems. The individual(s) shall be in compliance with accessibility and safety codes/regulations. This position reports directly to the Director of Facilities in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Facilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Analyzes blueprints, schematics, and drawings of electrical systems to determine the efficient installation of new or upgraded systems.
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses failures in electrical/HVAC systems to identify repair and/or replacement needs.
- Responsible for installing and repairing emergency lighting, exit signage, wiring, controls, and lighting systems.
- Fabricate equipment parts to meet specialty needs and/or replacing unavailable parts.
- Responsible for initialing building fire drills at all school buildings as directed
- Regularly informs the Facilities Administration staff verbally and in writing to document the progress and status of projects (e.g., work order status, activity logs, etc.)
- Inspect buildings and facilities to evaluate conditions, identify necessary repairs, and recommend preventive maintenance.
- Responsible for adding breakers to panels, adding dedicated lines to fixtures, troubleshooting school auditorium lighting, sound boards, bells, intercoms, school security systems (cameras, buzzers, etc.), and school building generators, etc.
- Responsible for the installation of Air Conditioning units as directed
- Responsible for the maintenance and operation of the School Committee sound system
- Responsible for maintaining and adjusting all building maintenance systems as needed
- Responsible for meeting with contractors for upcoming projects, pricing, or review of issues related to equipment and fixtures.
- Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions.
- Maintains and transports tools, supplies, and equipment to ensure the availability of materials required at a job site.
- Requests equipment and supplies to maintain inventory and ensure the availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.
- Responds to emergencies during and after hours to resolve immediate electrical concerns.
- As directed, perform plowing and snow removal operations.
- Ability to perform other duties assigned by the Director or Assistant Director of Facilities to meet the specific needs of the Pawtucket School Department and its students.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license
- Possession of State of Rhode Island Journeyman Electrician license
- 2 years of experience as an Electrician or any equivalent combination of training and experience
- Proficiency in working with computers

- Associate’s Degree
- Previous experience in the school department setting
