Pawtucket School DepartmentMLL Bilingual Guidance CounselorDistrict LevelSUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The Guidance Counselor is responsible for working collaboratively with the guidancedepartment chair, building administrators, teachers and families in overseeing the function andefficiency of the buildings Comprehensive Guidance Program to ensure the success of MLLstudents. The Counselor will meet the needs of MLL students by working closely with otherguidance counselors, the building administrators, teachers, parents, students and will provideaccess to all institutions and agencies in the community that will support MLL studentachievement. The guidance counselor works directly with the guidance department chair whenestablishing duties and responsibilities to ensure student success.EXEMPLARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with guidance chair and other guidance counselors to implement a ComprehensiveSchool Guidance Program that is delivered in accordance with the Rhode Island Frameworkfor Comprehensive K-12 School Counseling Programs and the American School CounselorsAssociation Promote and develop higher levels of cultural competence regarding MLLs in allguidance staff and school personnel Ensure that newcomers and their families are properly welcomed into the schoolcommunity and invited to participate in all activities held at the school to engage families aspartners in education Develop schedules for MLL, which include placement of students in appropriate classesto ensure college and career readiness as well as to provide necessary interventions; analyzetranscripts to allow access and opportunity to every student. Maintain accurate, secure files/records for MLLs to ensure that they meet the PBGRs asrequired by the district and state, including participating in portfolio review and portfoliopresentations.
Develop and maintain contact with families, making use of district translators whenevernecessary Work with other guidance staff and building leaders in planning school events for MLLs Collaborates with the Systems Manager to analyze MLL data Understand all reform initiatives and ensures that all MLL students understand thegraduation requirements.
