Job Summary
Pax Environmental is seeking a part-time, on-call hourly Field Biologist to assist with environmental compliance wildlife surveys and monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting environmental inspections for special status wildlife and plants, nesting bird surveys, biological assessments, wetland delineation and classification, and construction monitoring
- Building and maintaining productive professional and personal networking relationships.
- Communicate with regulatory agencies, field biologists, construction crews to complete reporting requirements.
- Applying Health and Safety policies and procedures as appropriate.
- Use of GPS units and aerial photographs for project navigation and collect field data.
- Taking photographs and detailed notes of site conditions.
- Understanding of project environmental requirements and associated laws protecting biological resources.
- Prepare high quality technical reports and environmental documents.
- Frequent field work, often requiring overnight stays.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years relevant experience in environmental consulting, restoration, or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., advanced degree) and experience.
- Special-status species experience
- Familiar with CEQA, NEPA, CESA, CWA Compliance processes and permitting including Initial Study Biological Assessments
- Experience with waters, wetlands, fisheries preferred.
- Wildlife and/or botanical targeted surveys (SKR/SBKR/CAGN highly desired).
- Knowledge in GIS software
- Demonstrated ability to successfully execute technical aspects of small to medium projects.
- The individual should be comfortable working in physically challenging outdoor situations in all types of weather and traveling on a regular basis to project sites which may require overnight stays.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with MS Office.
- Must have a satisfactory driving record and complete a background check.
