What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Coordinator position at PAX-Program of Academic Exchange?
PAX is currently hiring for the position of Community Coordinator (local representative) in George, Jackson, or Harrison county, MS. The Community Coordinator position is a contract position and you are paid per student you find a host family for. The rewards of being a community coordinator are numerous – especially if you love working with international students and enjoy interacting with people in your community! The community coordinator’s primary responsibilities are to:
- Recruit and screen volunteer host families with whom the students will live throughout the semester or academic year. Going into your community and finding host families willing to open their home to one or two of our students will be your primary priority. How you go about recruitment is up to you – working with local churches and community groups, using social media, putting up booths at festivals and community events are all ways to recruit. You will receive training on how to screen potential families.
- Work with local high schools to secure enrollment for our students.
- Provide supervision and support throughout the academic year by maintaining monthly contact with our students and their host families.
Ideal candidates will have the following experience, characteristics, and attributes:
- Have parented or worked with teens for three or more years.
- Bring experience from education, sales, or youth counseling.
- Are optimistic, motivated, flexible self-starters.
- Possess excellent communication skills.
- Have a strong network within their community.
As an independent contractor, your income is limited only by how many students your local high schools will accept and the time you can devote to this role. We think it is ideal for a community coordinator to place and support three to six students each year – though some place as few as one student and others place as many as ten or more. Many coordinators can manage a full-time job alongside this position and others focus on this position as their full-time job. Some choose to do this as a paid hobby, a way of giving back to the community, or they enjoy working with the high school students and different cultures. This will not pay the mortgage or provide steady income, but it will provide a small stipend throughout the year for your efforts and time.
High school students are coming from around the world to experience life in America as they study abroad. Your job will be to work to find schools in your area that will enroll exchange students, and to find potential host families who live near those schools. You are paid per placement, are offered bonuses, and can earn points to travel to overseas destinations.
