Paxtang Cemetery 127 years old and family operated. We are a forward thinking cemetery that offers not only traditional and cremation interment options but also have dedicated 12 acres to green burial where we plant the PA forest on top of every burial. The only certified green burial grounds in the area.
Paxtang Cemetery is looking for a dependable, motivated grounds worker for year round part to full-time employment. This position is responsible for the care, maintenance and repairs of the property and equipment. Full-time employees would be eligible for medical insurance assistance after 90-day trial period. Additional benefits include paid time off. Specific Responsibilities: Performs all landscape maintenance duties such as mowing, weed whacking, leaf and snow removal, decoration clean-up, shrub and tree trimming, installation and tending of flowerbeds (native plant knowledge a plus), etc.-
Operate grounds equipment including zero turn mowers, snow blowers, leaf blowers, backhoes, dump trucks, trailers and other related power equipment. Masonary skills a plus- Removes debris and trash from grounds, both from grave sites and cemetery trash receptacles.- Works cooperatively with team members on openings and closings for interments, entombments, inurnments and event set ups. Maintains equipment and vehicles, including oil, filter and spark plug changes, safety lock and pin inspection and replacement, and tire changes and plugging. - Observe safety rules and ensure compliance with the operating procedures.- Traffic control
Requirements & Qualifications: Education: High school education or equivalency required.
Experience: Minimum 1-year relevant experience in Landscape or related field.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to operate a backhoe a plus (backhoe experience a plus ), Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment, including, but not limited to, a shovel, rake, sledge hammer, weed whacker, bush trimmer, chainsaw and leaf blower- Ability to communicate effectively with fellow grounds workers, management, office administration and funeral directors- Ability to operate equipment in a safe and careful manner- Ability to evaluate, diagnose and repair mechanical issues in small-engine equipment and vehicles a added plus.- Knowledge of Ability to work cooperatively with other and accomplish group tasks within time constraints- Ability to problem solve, think critically, and make rational judgments and good decisions- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions- Availability to work occassional weekend- Ability to lift 50 lbs.- Valid driver's license.
