Payette is seeking a Design Technology Manger to assist the firm in its use of information technology to support a rich and comprehensive creative culture. First and foremost, this position will help research, test, and deploy technology and workflows at the forefront of the industry. Supporting teams across the entire practice including architectural, interiors, landscape, building science, visualization and fabrication, the Design Technology Manager will enable and support access to a broad array of tools facilitating all manners of design exploration.
Reporting to the Senior Information Technology Manager, the successful candidate will have experience working within design teams, managing the use of technology, and exploring new developments in the market. Speaking both the language of design and that of technology, this is a position that will bridge gaps and help the firm make informed decisions. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or a related information technology discipline
- A minimum of 10 years of experience supporting design technology, preferably within an architectural practice
- Strong technical background and understanding of architectural design processes from design through documentation and construction administration.
- Familiarity and experience with peripheral technologies including virtual reality, 3-D printing, fabrication, computational simulations.
- Significant experience with core design technology including Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM 360; Rhino; Enscape; Bluebeam and Adobe products
- Experience organizing the use of design technology and mentoring staff in the optimal ways to efficiently use new systems and tools.
- General understanding of the Information Technology hardware used to support a design practice
- Substantial experience leading, directing and controlling complex projects
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on collaborative support
In addition to helping teams use technology in a disciplined, safe and secure manner, qualified candidates will also:
- Support a design environment that eliminates barriers and supports the broad use of technology with an eye towards ease of use and facilitating the work of the end users
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including architectural project teams, interiors, fabrication, building science, design visualization and Space Strategies, to ensure design technology initiatives are aligned with the firm’s mission and meet the needs of the end users.
- Work with the Senior Information Technology Manager and firm leadership to develop strategies and standards for the comprehensive use of design technology within the entire practice.
- Research and keep abreast of new and emerging technologies within the industry. Orchestrate pilot projects and tests to explore and validate the benefits of new technologies and recommend products and procedures that should be deployed more broadly. This includes software, hardware, and specialty equipment opportunities
- Balancing performance and risk, promote workflows and practices that lead to secure, safe and efficient technological environments that help teams complete their work with the greatest possible ease.
- Manage and coordinate the services of outside vendors providing support and training for design technology software
- Assist the Senior Information Technology Manager in planning strategic initiatives and developing annual budgets.
