The PositionThe Building Inspector performs a variety of routine and complex technical tasks in building inspection work to ensure that the Uniform Building Code and other related codes and standards are met. Compliance is ordered when violations are discovered. Difficult problems may be referred to a supervisor, but employees work independently in the field and are responsible for making decisions requiring technical discretion, sound judgment, and familiarity with a variety of codes, ordinances, and construction methods or problems. Work is performed under general supervision and reviewed by assigned supervisor. Provide plan review, construction quality assurance through physical inspection of construction site, and project coordination, as well as site development inspections for compliance with Zoning and Design Review Ordinances. Incumbents are required to perform a broader range of duties which include field review for first review construction plans submitted for Town approval. Specific plan review duties may include assessing impact of proposed construction on surrounding properties and existing improvements, examining the proposed improvements to determine constructability, and providing written comments on a marked-up plan to the office plan reviewer.
