General Purpose
The Senior Credit Underwriter / Credit Manager is responsible for measuring and managing the aggregate risk in the Bankss loan portfolio through credit underwriting. This position will be responsible for the attainment of lending objectives and the overall direction and operations of the credit department, including individual loan and portfolio quality. The Senior Credit Underwriter / Credit Manager will also have particular emphasis on commercial lending, loan monitoring, regulatory compliance, risk management and profitability for the organization.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Work closely with the CCO, President/CEO and other senior management members to prepare and achieve strategic business and tactical initiatives.
- Manage direct reports to comply with policies and procedures, commercial lending operations strategies, underwriting, risk management and loan pricing.
- Assist the CCO to monitor and manage the overall credit risk of the loan portfolios.
- Knowledge of financial documents including but not limited to the Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Statement of Cash flows under GAAP accounting.
- Thorough understanding of U.S. Tax Returns both for businesses and individuals.
- Analyze applicants financial status, credit, and property evaluation to determine feasibility of granting a loan.
- Incorporate a thorough and accurate explanation regarding the key risk areas or major changes that affect the financial stability of the borrowers and potential risk to the credit.
- Thorough understanding of financial accounting and analysis of commercial loan packages.
- Study economic trends of a firm(s) or individual(s) branch or industry to predict probable success of a new customer or the future success of an existing customer.
- Gather all data and information needed to ascertain the likelihood of repayment and develop a strategy for mitigating the risks associated with potential problems of repayment.
- Monitor loans to ensure credit quality.
- Set guidelines related to the accurate and timely credit underwriting.
- Responsible for adhering to regulatory guidance and federal and state laws if applicable.
- Control bank quality, ensuring policy and guidelines are followed consistently by personnel, implementing best practices in lending and credit administration across the organization and promoting the culture.
- Responsible for leading, coaching, and developing the credit team.
Supervisory Duties
- Management of all Credit Analyst personnel
- Complete annual performance evaluations on direct reports with delivery to employee prior to anniversary data
- Provide the Human Resources Department with accurate and timely timekeeping information
Knowledge
- Knowledge of the banking industry procedures, workflow and regulatory requirements at a state and federal level.
- Understanding of various credit structures, credit philosophy and credit underwriting.
- Knowledge of lending compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge and experience with credit reports as well as Loan to Value (LTV), Combined Loan to Value (CLTV), debt-to-income ratios and Debt Service Coverage Ratios (DCSR).
- Knowledge of the terms and vocabulary associated with loan documents
- Understand bank products and services.

Education/Experience
- Bachelors degree in business, Finance, or similar field.
- Banking Education through certified institutions.
- Eight years of experience within the banking industry, including a current background in commercial lending or commercial underwriting, are required.
- Experience managing multiple lines of business in commercial lending and commercial banking operations.
