The Log Scaler is responsible for accurately measuring, grading, and documenting logs delivered to the mill or logging site. This role ensures that the logs are categorized correctly for processing, ensuring optimal use and pricing based on industry standards and company guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
• Measuring Logs: Accurately measure the diameter, length, and volume of logs using tools like calipers, tapes, and scaling sticks. Apply standard formulas to calculate log volume (e.g., Scribner, Doyle, or international scale).
• Grading Logs: Assess the quality of logs by inspecting for defects, species, and overall condition. Apply grading rules to determine the log's value and appropriate usage. • Documenting Information: Record measurements, grades, and other relevant data in logs or electronic systems. Ensure that all information is accurate and well-documented for inventory and billing purposes.
• Communicating with Teams: Collaborate with other team members, including foresters, truck drivers, and mill operators, to ensure logs are handled properly and efficiently. Provide guidance on log sorting and processing based on scaling results.
• Compliance and Safety: Ensure all scaling activities comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies. Maintain a safe work environment and always follow safety protocols.

• 2- year associates degree in forestry preferred
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Good mathematical skills for volume calculations and measurements
