Job Title: Caregiver with Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) Experience
Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Caregiver with expertise in Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping individuals with behavioral challenges, providing high-quality care, and creating a supportive environment that fosters positive growth and development. This position involves working closely with individuals to implement PBIS strategies, while also assisting with essential daily tasks like toileting, feeding, and personal care, as well as supporting community outings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Personal Care Support: Assist individuals with toileting, changing, feeding, and other activities of daily living (ADLs) with dignity and respect.
- Behavioral Support: Implement PBIS strategies to encourage positive behavior, reduce challenging behaviors, and promote social engagement and emotional well-being.
- Community Integration: Accompany individuals on community outings, ensuring safety and promoting socialization in various settings (e.g., parks, stores, recreational activities).
- Individualized Care Plans: Work closely with the team to implement individualized care plans that meet the physical, emotional, and behavioral needs of each person.
- Behavior Monitoring and Documentation: Observe and document behavioral progress, adjusting PBIS strategies as needed to support positive outcomes.
- Crisis Intervention: Utilize de-escalation techniques and behavior management strategies when necessary, ensuring a safe and calm environment for individuals under your care.
- Advocacy: Be a strong advocate for the individuals in your care, ensuring they are treated with respect, dignity, and understanding at all times.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a caregiver, with direct experience in toileting, feeding, and personal care tasks.
- At least 1-2 years of experience working with individuals who have behavioral challenges, disabilities, or special needs.
- Knowledge of Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) strategies and techniques.
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or other behavioral health needs is preferred.
- Ability to assist with personal hygiene, toileting, feeding, and other ADLs in a respectful and compassionate manner.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and build rapport with individuals and their families.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Patience, empathy, and flexibility in responding to individual needs.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Desired Skills and Attributes:
- Ability to remain calm and patient during challenging situations or behavioral crises.
- Strong problem-solving skills to support individuals in making positive behavioral changes.
- Experience with community-based activities and outings for individuals with special needs.
- Crisis intervention or de-escalation training is a plus.
- Willingness to learn and stay updated on best practices for caregiving and behavioral support.
