As an Electrical Design Engineer II with Larson Davis, you will leverage your electrical engineering education, hands-on experience, and technical expertise to design, develop, and enhance products while ensuring compliance with Intrinsically Safe (IS) standards. You will collaborate within engineering teams and with other departments to support all phases of product development, from concept to final testing, implementation, and support. This role will require you to contribute to the design and development of electrical systems and products that meet industry standards.
You will act as a lead for intrinsically safe (IS) products and be responsible for ensuring that Larson Davis maintains compliance with the IS requirements for all IS listed products.Responsibilities:
- Work within an ISO 9001 environment by following procedures and helping improve the ISO 9001 process.
- Be involved in routinely learning and implementing new technologies, participate in the creation of plans for product development, participate in the product quality assurance process.
- Design and test preamps, sound level meters, microphones, and other products related to Larson Davis.
- Design and create filter coefficients using a variety of development tools, environments and languages.
- Develop and implement testing procedures for electrical systems and components, including environmental testing and safety compliance verification.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical issues, performing root cause analysis to improve product reliability and performance.
- Design, develop, and test electrical systems and components with a focus on Intrinsically Safe (IS) products.
- Develop and test product prototypes, ensuring they meet Intrinsically Safe standards (IECEx, ATEX, UL, etc.).
- Develop internal acoustic testing for instruments.
- Provide training to team members on related intrinsically safe projects.
- Work with other departments to solve product related problems. Test, troubleshoot, and conduct analyses to improve reliability, quality and profit.
- May attend seminars, visit customers and write technical documentation in active support of technology.
- Conduct project tracking, scheduling, and costing tasks as needed to ensure project timelines and budgets are adhered to.
- Support mechanical and hardware design. Provides input for instrument additions and replacement.
- Ensures that team members understand and follow established policies and procedures within the calibration system and adhere to the Employee Guide and Quality Management System.
- Act as a liaison between Engineering and Production departments regarding new products and procedures affecting metrology and calibration by specifying the ME and M&TE to be used for parameters and or product being tested.
- Works with the Production Manager to determine policies governing access to the testing areas.
- Act as a liaison between the Engineering, Compliance, and Production departments regarding the integration of Intrinsically Safe features into new and existing products.
- Perform other related duties as directed to ensure efficient operation of the Engineering Department
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or similar degree.
- Experience: Minimum of five years embedded systems development. C/C required; embedded OS, signal processing, hardware design. Ability to work with certifying bodies to maintain industry accreditations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters or Doctorate preferred. Experience in acoustic design and testing or related field is preferred. Knowledge of intrinsically safe standards. Proficiency in tools such as Altium Designer.
- Travel is not typical but ability to travel <10% of the time to attend conferences is preferred.
